Keller: Grandchildren are a special gift for their grandparents

When Jeanne and I starting having grandchildren, someone told me that was God’s way of giving me a chance to make up for the mistakes I may have made with my children.

I shared that with my friend, Danny Louque, when he and Sue began a new chapter in their life with grandchildren.

Over the years, Danny and I have exchanged stories about our grandchildren.

Friday, at our weekly Bible study, Danny shared how he frequently drives his grandchildren to school at St. Charles High and St. Joan of Arc schools, or picks them up.

Since he lives in Paulina, it takes him at least 20 minutes, because it’s a 20-mile drive.

He said that during these drives, he has a captive audience and gets to share things that they may never hear.

As Danny continued telling the group about his experiences with his grandchildren, you could feel the love he has for his family.

He finished sharing by saying that when he puts them down after the drive, he thanks them for giving him the privilege and pleasure of being available to drive them to, or from school.

If he is half as excited about driving them as he was about sharing the trips with the group, his grandchildren have been blessed.

God had blessed Danny abundantly in his marriage, his business and his community.

Speaking of grandchildren, I’m reminded of Proverbs 17:6, “Children’s children are the crown of old men.” Knowing that everything comes from God, Danny wears his crown proudly.
