LAPLACE — PE classes have gone high tech at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic School in LaPlace.
As part of AOL’s technology program, students in grades third through seventh are equipped with the Adidas Zone for IHT Spirit — a wrist-only heart-rate monitor that tracks individual student performance.
Dawn Gaubert, who has been in physical education for 13 years, helped launch the program approximately six weeks ago.
She has introduced many activities and interactive games to increase student participation and endurance of students during her tenure, saying this latest bit of technology takes things to a new level.
“I am now able to review statistics and create a more customized P.E. routine for each grade level,” Gaubert said.
The Adidas Zone tracks heart-rate and workout intensity.
Each day parents receive an email breakdown of the student’s daily workout levels.
“Students have become more focused and determined to reach zone goals during classes,” Gaubert said.
