Inez Mae Berthelot St. Germain passed over on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 10 days.

Inez Mae Berthelot St. Germain

Inez was born in Edgard to Norbert & Noémie Borne Berthelot on Friday, May 30, 1930, and was baptized at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgard.

Some six months later, she moved with her parents to LaPlace. She attended John L. Ory Elementary School in LaPlace, and then Leon Godchaux High School in Reserve, from which she was graduated in 1946.

Following graduation she attended Spencer’s Business College in New Orleans and worked at a clerical job in the city.

On Saturday, February 5, 1949, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in LaPlace, she married Ridley J. “RJ” St. Germain, with whom she had five children: Robert “Bob” St. Germain, Marjorie “Marge” Roussell, Brenda Mauldin, William “Bill” St. Germain (Liz) and Susan Derenbecker (Ron).

From 1949 to the present, the growing family lived in Camp Plauché (presently Elmwood) (1949-1952), New Orleans (1952-1954), LaPlace (1954-1956), Reserve (1956-1961), Kenner (1961-1965), and then back to Reserve (1965-present). Following her retirement from Sewell Plastics in 1992, she became more active in St. Peter Catholic Church, serving as a proud traditional choir member, former director of the Thrift Shop and member of the Ladies’ Altar Society.

Her favorite past-times were reading, working word puzzles, knitting and crochet.

Inez is survived by all five of her children, her six grandchildren and her six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband (1978), her parents (1954 & 1996), her sister Doris Berthelot Ockman (1996) and her brother-in-law Joseph Ockman (1998), and her cats Tootsie (2011) and Harry (2018).

Inez was a loving mother and friend, and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

The family offer their thanks and deep appreciation to the staff of Ochsner Medcial Center in LaPlace and the main campus in Jefferson; to the hospice staff at Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice, in River Ridge; and to Rev. Tom McCann and Rev. John J. Marse for their gentle pastoral care of Inez and her family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1550 Highway 44 in Reserve, on Friday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m.

Visitation is from 9 until 11 a.m. Interment is in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie.
