Poché: Library Christmas fun includes ugly sweaters & pictures with Santa

The holidays are approaching and it’s the perfect time to wear that ugly Christmas sweater, spend time with family and friends, decorate your home and the Christmas tree, help the less fortunate and head to the library to pick up some good Christmas reads while enjoying our wonderful programs.

Each library branch will be hosting a plethora of Christmas programs.

The Central Library will have a “Snowflake Party” at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 and a “Golden Snitch Ornament Craft” for tweens and teens at 6 p.m. Dec. 10. For more information, call Carly Maurin at 985-652-6857.

They will also be hosting “Lady Chops: Here Come the Bells, So Many Bells” at 6 p.m. Dec. 13. Patrons of all ages are welcome to attend this phenomenal Christmas show. For more information, call branch supervisor JoAnn Proctor at 985-652-6857.

The Reserve Branch will have a “DIY Ugly Sweater” event at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 for children ages 8 and up.

They will also be hosting a “Christmas Ornament Make & Take” starting at 9 a.m. Dec. 8, taking place all day for patrons of all ages.

“Make Shoppe” will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 10. Patrons will be making a wooden ornament door piece that could be used throughout the holidays. Registration for this program is mandatory, so please call the Reserve Library at 985-536-417 to sign-up.

“Morning Makers” will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 18 at the Reserve Library. Adult patrons are invited to create a Christmas inspired craft.  Please call the Reserve Library at 985-536-4107 for more information and to sign-up.

The Garyville Branch will be hosting a “Glass Candy Jar Craft,” where adult patrons will make a Christmas candy jar out of a clay pot.  This program takes place at 3 p.m. Dec. 10.

Children, ages 6 and up, are invited Dec. 17 and Dec. 21 to make “Christmas Holiday Ornaments.” They are also welcome to come out and paint a Christmas canvas at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 27.

Children, ages 6 to 12, are invited out to the Edgard Library to make “Rudolph Reindeer Candy Bars” Dec. 4 and “Origami X-mas Trees” on Dec. 12 at 3:30 p.m.

They will also host an “Ugly Sweater Contest” at 5 p.m. Dec. 5. All adult patrons are welcome to dress up in their favorite sweater to see which outfit is the most creative and original. The winner receives a small gift. For more information, call Carlos Diaz, branch supervisor, at 985-497-3453.

Santa will be visiting each library during this holiday season.
