LAPLACE — A 15-year-old was killed Saturday evening in LaPlace, police said, the result of an apartment resident shooting him during a break-in.

The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a shooting at the Sugar Pine Apartments, located off Louisiana 628 in LaPlace, at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Upon arrival officers found an unresponsive 15-year-old male lying on the rear porch of an apartment who was later pronounced deceased at the scene. Police identified the 15-year-old who was killed as Treshon Jenkins of LaPlace.

The initial investigation concluded Jenkins was wearing gloves and had forcibly entered the rear door of the apartment and made entry inside of the apartment. Upon doing so, the resident of the apartment opened fire upon Jenkins, striking him multiple times.

The juvenile then collapsed just outside of the door onto the patio. A mask also was found near Jenkins.

The resident who called 911 after the shooting fully cooperated with investigators and has not been arrested at this time.

Two other juveniles, ages 14 and 15, were booked with burglary and are being held in a juvenile detention center. Both of these juveniles were with the deceased 15-year-old during the commission of the burglary and were not struck by gunfire, police said.

A Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said the St. John Parish District Attorney’s Office has been informed regarding the current status of the shooting.
