Hurricane Michael relief supply effort seeking donations Oct. 20 & 25

LAPLACE — As with Hurricane Florence, Hurricane Michael has brought death and destruction, this time to the state of Florida.

Local organizers said there are thousands of people in need of the basic necessities for everyday life.

The Ascension of Our Lord, Knights of Columbus, Council 9623, will again be manning a donation drop off site for the River Region.

Donations can be brought to 2803 U.S. 51 in LaPlace at The Triche Centre. Volunteers will be manning the site and accepting donations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 7 p.m. Oct. 25.

In addition of any monetary donations, the following items are needed: bottled and gallons of water, sports drinks, nonperishable food items, humidifiers, adult and baby diapers, baby bottles, baby formula, baby wipes, infant and adult toiletries, Ensure, contractor grade garbage bags, brooms, rakes, pick axes, disinfectant cleaners, bleach, mold killer, rubber gloves, respirators, dust masks and safety glasses.
