West St. John High hit the road for Week 2, handling the game like a business trip, defeating South Plaquemines 26-6.

“It gives me a better feeling,” WSJH coach Brandon Walters said after the game. “We’ll have a better ride going home. We still have a lot of work to do.”

Walters said senior running back Kylan Duhe carried the load for the Rams.

“Kylan really held it down for us, running the ball really well,” Walters said. “We got behind him a lot.”

Coaches were also happy with a long touchdown connection between D’andre Gaudia and Carrington Clark.

West St. John’s defensive effort was a game highlight, with the play of Zyron Wilson, D’kyri Jackson and Wantrell Williams standing out.

• East St. John High and new coach Brandon Brown picked up win No. 1 with a road victory over West Jefferson, 41-6.

“The feeling is good,” Brown said. “We’ve been stressing if you are going to build a program, you have to do it brick by brick. We just focused on being 1-0 this week and ended up having a heck of a week of practice. We slowed some things down and went back to the drawing board.”

The Wildcats dominated up front all night against the Buccaneers, turning them into a one-dimensional ball club.

“Our defensive line was able to provide a rush all night,” Brown said.

• Riverside Academy’s second road game of the season was a rough one.

The Barbe Buccaneers topped RA 44-0 in Lake Charles Friday night.

The Rebels return home next week for their first game in Reserve, hosting Rummel in Week 3.
