All St. John public, private schools cancel school Tuesday for Tropical Storm Gordon

Due to possible inclement weather as a result of Tropical Storm Gordon, the St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District has canceled school for Tuesday (Sept. 4).
Parents are asked to monitor the district’s website at www.stjohn.k12.la.us, the district Facebook page, Twitter @stjohnsupe and telephone communications for an update Tuesday afternoon regarding possible closure of school on Wednesday (Sept. 5).
Riverside Academy also announced school is closed Tuesday. Other local schools that are closing Tuesday include St. Peter Catholic School, St. Joan of Arc Catholic School, Ascension of Our Lord Catholic School and St. Charles Catholic High School.
Tropical Storm Gordon is expected to move into Gulf and bring impacts to the area Tuesday into Wednesday.
A Tropical Storm Warning and Flash Flood Watch are in effect.
Tropical storm force wind gusts are possible as early as Tuesday and residents should be prepared for potential wind impacts and power outages.
Rainfall amounts of 4 to 7 inches, with locally higher amounts are possible which could cause localized flooding if fallen over a short periods of time.
Self-serve Sandbag Locations opened Monday.
Bring a shovel and prepare to fill your own bags. Please only take what is needed from:
- Intersection of Bamboo Road & Indigo Pkwy (near Lake Pontchartrain Elementary)
- Railroad Avenue Fire Station (near Riverside Academy)
- Ezekiel Jackson Park
- Westbank Complex
- Wallace & Pleasure Bend Fire Stations.
