RESERVE — East St. John High coach Brandon Brown took precautions in last week’s scrimmage against Karr, choosing to sit out players with minor injuries.

This week, the Wildcats jamboree against John Ehret kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the West Jefferson High School stadium, and Brown said his players are ready to show their heart.

“Our No. 1 is to stay healthy,” Brown said.

“After that, we just want to see our kids go out and execute. We want to play fast, physical and let our guys have some fun.”

Hoxie Brown, left, and Markel August take the field for practice.

Brown hopes to come out of the jamboree with a tightened offensive line and visible improvement in tackling on defense.

“We need to work hard to go against a very tough opponent Week 1 in Plaquemine,” Brown said.

“Our guys play hard with a lot of energy and effort. They just need work on tackling. As coaches, we slow it down to get the little things right.”

Sean Shelby, No. 12, and Duke Crosby, No. 10, are working for strong 2018 performances.
