Man, 58, jailed on St. James Parish murder sentence killed after Angola fight

BATON ROUGE — A River Parishes prisoner serving a life sentence was killed following a brutal fight at Angola, authorities said.
Possible criminal charges are pending on a Louisiana State Penitentiary offender.
West Feliciana Parish Deputies and Department of Corrections detectives are investigating the death of 58-year-old Dolan Franklin, who was taken off of life support Monday. The Corrections Department was notified of his death at 2:46 p.m.
Franklin was involved in a dorm fight at 5:39 a.m. Sunday with 40-year-old Robert Clark. Correctional officers said they quickly responded and pulled Clark off of Franklin.
Franklin was immediately taken to a Baton Rouge hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Franklin was serving a life sentence for second degree murder out of St. James Parish. He had been at Angola since Aug. 30, 1993.
Clark is serving a 75-year sentence for armed robbery out of Bossier Parish. He has been at Angola since Feb. 10, 2014.
An autopsy will be performed this week.
Possible criminal charges are pending the outcome of the investigation and the autopsy.
