THIBODAUX — For more than ten straight years, Thibodaux Regional Medical Center has been among the best medical facilities in the United States in terms of patients’ reviews.
That recognition continued this year when the medical center received the Healthgrades 2018 Outstanding Patient Experience Award, the 11th year in a row the honor has been earned. Hospital officials said the award places Thibodaux Regional in the top five percent in the nation while noting it’s the only hospital in Louisiana who has earned the distinction.
Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, evaluated more than 3,500 hospitals nationwide. Healthgrades assesses hospital performance by applying a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, using data collected from a 32-question patient experience survey of the hospital’s own patients.
The survey questions focus on patients’ perspectives of their care in the hospital with topics that range from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to factors such as pain management and responsiveness to patients’ needs. The measures also include whether a patient would recommend the hospital to friends or family.
“Patient experience surveys offer important insights about hospitals and their commitment to providing patients with outstanding experience, and furthermore, consumers value that information when making care decisions,” Healthgrades Chief Medical Officer Brad Bowman said.
“Hospitals that have received the Healthgrades 2018 Outstanding Patient Experience Award have received high marks from their most important stakeholders — the patients themselves.”
