SJSO offers hunter safety education course Aug. 24, 25
LAPLACE — The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office hosted a hunter safety education course July 27-28 at the Leonard Robinet Multi-Purpose Room in LaPlace.
Another class is set for Aug. 24 from 5 to 9 p.m. (classroom) and Aug. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (field activities) at Patrol Headquarters in LaPlace.
Hunter education teaches future hunters how to be safe, responsible and ethical hunters.
Among the topics addressed were hunter responsibility and ethics, how firearms work and firearms safety, survival and first aid skills, firearm handling skills and hunting techniques, wildlife identification, game care and information related to wildlife conservation and management.
Officers Bernell Charles, Stephen Hefler and Blane Rome Sr. lead the class.
Participants are required to attend the two-day class and pass written and practical exams to be certified.
