Poché: Summer reading program ends but library fun continues

During the last week of St. John the Baptist Parish Libraries’ Summer Reading Program, Elizabeth Vidos, also known as “Lady Chops,” is performing her one-woman, drumming show.

She will be [erforming at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Reserve Library snd at 2 p.m. at the Central Library. Vidos is a talented percussionist whose past work includes performing in the hit Off-Broadway show “STOMP.”

Her “Drum Roll Please” is energetic, interactive and fun for all ages as she incorporates more than 15 instruments including buckets, body percussion, and the Cajun rubboard. Please join us to close out the Summer Reading Program.

Each library branch will be hosting an “End of Summer Reading Party” for children, teens and adults who have completed the program. The Edgard Library is celebrating at 1:30 p.m. Monday. The Reserve Library will be celebrating at 5 p.m. Monday. The Central Library will be celebrating at 2 p.m. Thursday, and the Garyville Library also celebrates at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Bailey’s Ice Delights and Chill Sensations mobile snowball trucks are visiting the libraries to give free snowballs to everyone who has completed the Summer Reading Program at those above times.

The fun programs continue next month at St. John the Baptist Parish Libraries.

Storytime is held at 10:30 a.m. every Thursday for children between the ages of 1 and 5. Children, ages 4 and older, are invited to the “Kids’ Craft” at 10 a.m. Aug. 11. For more information, call 985-652-6857.

The Reserve Library is hosting “Walk for Your Health” at 10 a.m. every Wednesday for adult patrons.

The monthly “Make Shoppe” is at 6 p.m. Aug. 13, with patrons making coastal mirrors. Registration is required. “Morning Makers” will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 21, with adult patrons making coastal picture frames to match their coastal mirrors. Registration is also required for this program.

Tweens and teens are invited out at 5 p.m. Thursday to make a “Back to School Craft.” They are also invited out at 5 p.m. Aug. 16 for an “After School Movie.”

Children are welcome at 6 p.m. Aug. 11 to enjoy a “Salt Painting” craft.  For more information, call 985-536-4107.

The Garyville Library is hosting “Setting up E-Mails” at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 9 for adult patrons. Tweens and teens are invited to a “Tech Class” at 2 p.m. Friday.

A “Popsicle Stick Pencil Holder” craft will be held at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 6 and “Simply Paint” at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 13 for children ages 6 and up. For more information, call 985-536-4107.

The Edgard Library continues to host computer classes for adults every Monday at 10 a.m. and every Wednesday at 6 p.m. “Origami Bookmarks” will be made by adults at 3 p.m. Aug. 23.

Tweens and teens are invited out for “Game Time” at 3:30 p.m. every Thursday for Checkers, Jenga, Candyland, etc. Tweens and teens will make “Library Card Pouches” at 3 p.m. Aug. 9.

Children, ages 5 to 10, are welcome every Wednesday at 5 p.m. for “Story Time” and also invited to participate in a “Back to School Bus Craft” at 4 p.m. Aug. 7.
