DES ALLEMANDS — Margo Matherne helped create awareness about a new venture — Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, Paradis Museum Society’s history museum — in her community by building and donating a life-size playhouse.
The Des Allemands Girl Scout also shared information about the museum’s offerings and opening details.
That effort earned Matherne, a 2018 Hahnville High graduate, Gold Award Girl Scout status during a statewide pinning ceremony and reception at the Old Governor’s Mansion.
The 2017-18 Gold Award Girl Scout was among 10 Louisiana Girl Scouts to receive this highest award in Girl Scouting.
Matherne plans to attend Appalachian State University, where she will study applied and public history.
In order to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award, a Girl Scout must demonstrate her ability and skills in goal setting, planning, implementing Girl Scout values and relating to the community.
She must also plan and execute a community service project with a minimum of 80 working hours that provides a sustainable benefit to her larger community.
