DARROW — Shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana 942 south of Louisiana 22 in Ascension Parish.

The crash took the life of 52-year-old Albert Batiste Jr. of Vacherie.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed the crash occurred as Batiste was traveling southbound on Louisiana 942 in a 2010 Kenworth dump truck.

For reasons still under investigation, Batiste lost control of his vehicle and ran off the left side of the roadway. The dump truck struck a tree and overturned spilling gravel onto Louisiana 942.

The impact caused the dump truck to catch fire with Batiste still inside.

Batiste sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from Batiste for analysis.
