PetSmart announces LaPlace closing date

LAPLACE — PetSmart of LaPlace is closing its doors July 1 after three and a half years of operation in the Riverlands Shopping Center.

Located at 1332 W. Airline Highway, the LaPlace location opened in November 2014 as a “micro store,” offering grooming, bathing, pet supplies and pet food.

When reached this week, store manager Caleb Schlamt did not comment on the reasons for the closing.

According to an April Bloomberg business report, PetSmart earnings dropped following a $3 billion acquisition of Chewy.com in 2017. Yet, PetSmart executives entered 2018 with intentions to open as many as 60 new stores to honor commitments made before the acquisition.

Since 2014, PetSmart has maintained a presence in the LaPlace community by hosting St. John Parish Animal Shelter adoption events, presenting gift cards to local church groups and donating stuffed animals for Girl Scouts to deliver to CASA children.

Closeout sales events are to be determined, according to Schlamt.

Store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
