LAPLACE — Detectives with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office are asking for community tips to facilitate an investigation of a shooting that left two injured Sunday in the 2600 block of English Colony Drive in LaPlace.

Multiple witnesses have been uncooperative with officers, and a motive is unknown at this time, according to a SJSO press release.

Upon arriving at the scene around 4:30 p.m., deputies observed one male victim inside the home with a gunshot wound to the neck and another male victim inside the garage with a gunshot wound to the ribs.

The victims were taken to University Medical Center for treatment. Both are in stable condition.

Darryl Anthony Taylor, an 18-year-old resident of the home, stepped outside of the home and fired a weapon in retaliation as the shooters fled the scene.

After an investigation, Taylor was arrested for illegal carrying of a weapon w/cds and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Sheriff Mike Tregre said the investigation is ongoing.

“I’m not trying to muddy the water or cloud the issue,” Tregre said.  “We got [Taylor], but we are very focused on trying to apprehend the ones who did the shooting initially to the two guys who were shot. Unfortunately, we’re not getting much cooperation from anyone.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359- TIPS, SJSO dispatch at 985-652- 6338 or the Criminal Investigations Division at 985-652-2773. Citizens can also submit tips on the Sheriff’s Office website at stjohnsheriff.org/submitatip.php.
