LAPLACE — Special Operations Division deputies apprehended a convicted felon last week, with police announcing the arrest included the recovery of multiple stolen firearms.
According to the St. John Sheriff’s Office, 21-year-old Devin Michael Hebert pried open the door May 3 to a residential home in the 100 block of Augustine Lane.
At the same time as the break-in was occurring, police said the homeowner was watching it happen through in-home video surveillance and alerting authorities.
Upon arrival, deputies learned the suspect had already left the residence with several firearms. Investigation determined Hebert as a suspect.
Deputies located Hebert’s residence, where they said police recovered stolen guns including an Elite Stalker 444 Marlin, a Mossberg Maverick 88, an Elite Stalker 35 Whelen and two Remington 870 Express.
Through investigation, officers learned of Hebert’s whereabouts, and members of the Special Operations Division apprehended him the same day.
Police said Hebert is a convicted felon for theft and drug violations. He was arrested last week for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling (felony), possession of firearm by a convicted felon (felony) and probation/parole violation.
He is being held in custody in lieu of a $27,500 bond.
