LAPLACE — Two men believed to have carjacked a LaPlace motorist who was providing them with a free ride were arrested this week, police said.

LaPlace resident Galvin Marcus Bourgeois, 30, faces several charges following his Thursday apprehension in Baton Rouge by the U.S. Marshals Task Force.

Bourgeois, along with 25-year-old Baton Rouge resident Cody Bezet, are accused of stealing a 2003 Toyota Corolla by gunpoint at 6 p.m. Sunday in LaPlace.

The victim told police he was driving two men to a nearby hotel when one of them produced a handgun and demanded money and control of the vehicle.

When the victim exited the car at Old 51 and Farm Road, the suspects fled from the area in the Corolla.

Based on investigation, a judicial warrant was obtained for Bourgeois’ arrest. He is booked with possession of firearm/carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon (felony), carjacking (felony), accessory to second degree battery and armed robbery with a firearm (felony).

He is being held in custody in lieu of a $160,000 bond.

The second suspect in this case, Cody Bezet, was arrested hours after the carjacking in Ascension Parish for illegal possession of stole things.

He also has been charged with armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, use of a firearm and carjacking.

Bezet is being held in the Ascension Parish jail and will be extradited to St. John Sheriff’s Office at a later date.
