RESERVE — Road Runner Food & Fuel is a small business that has seen a large amount of luck in terms of recent lottery winnings, according to owner Sam Ahmad.

A Powerball ticket worth $100,000 in the May 2 drawing was sold at the store, lottery officials said. The ticket matched four of five numbers in addition to the Powerball and PowerPlay included in the drawing.

Dustin Annison, director of marketing for Louisiana Lottery, said the winner has 180 days to claim his or her prize money.

Lottery officials said the winner would claim approximately $70,000 after state and federal taxes are removed.

According to Louisiana Lottery, for selling the winning ticket Road Runner Food & Fuel is awarded 1 percent of earnings, which is $1,000 in this case. Another ticket purchased from Road Runner Food & Fuel won $2,149 in the May 5 lotto drawing.

“It’s a lucky store,” Ahmad said. “Two years ago, we had someone win $50,000. I’m sure it helps our business.”

Road Runner Food & Fuel is located at 3547 West Airline Highway in Reserve.

Eight tickets worth $500 or above were sold in the area over the past two months, according to Annison.

Five were $500 pick 3 winners sold at Reserve Truck Stop & Casino and Birdie’s Food & Fuel.

A $600 pick 4 winner purchased a ticket at Club Grocery & General Merchandise in Edgard.

Powerball drawings are held at 11:59 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays, and the deadline to purchase tickets is 9:45 p.m.

As of press time Tuesday morning, the estimated jackpot was more than $200 million.
