Marie Therese Maurin Montz (Maraise)

Marie Therese Maurin Montz (Maraise), 96, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 6 p.m. in LaPlace. She was a native of Reserve and a lifelong resident of LaPlace.

She was the beloved wife of the late Armand M. Montz Jr.; daughter of the late Louis J. Maurin Sr. and Emma LeBrun Maurin; sister of the late Elaine Maurin Delaneuville (late Dewey Delaneuville), late Marjorie Maurin McTopy (late John McTopy), late Louis J. Maurin Jr. (late Ruth Schexnaydre), late Gloria Mae Maurin Oubre (late Richard P. Oubre), late Joseph LeBrun Maurin (Marilyn Torres) and the late Jo-Anne Maurin Montz (late Warren “Smokey” Montz); and mother of the late Armand M. Montz, III and surviving children Sharon Montz Brady (Michael), Gretchen Montz Schexnayder (Dale), Jeffrey Montz (Celeste Pichon) and Gerard Montz (Judy Bivona).

She as the grandmother to the late Rusty Ledet, and surviving grandchildren Jason Paul Ledet (Danielle Ledet), Ginger Villa (Nathan), Brandon Montz, Therese Schexnayder, Maria Schexnayder, Megan Montz, Aaron Montz and Christian Montz and step Grandmother to Shawn Brady, Christopher Brady (Kristi), Michelle Mesler (Richard), Nicholas Schexnayder and Abby Goggins (Josh).

She is survived by many great grandchildren, whom she dearly loved.
Marie Therese worked in her father’s theater business (Maurin’s Theaters) selling tickets and performing many other duties in her youth. She was a graduate of Dominican College in New Orleans.

In 1946, she married Armand Montz Jr. and worked in the office of the A. Montz Ice Factory and Frozen Food Plant in LaPlace. She also spent some time teaching.

Marie Therese was a parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, where she sang in the church choir for many years and was also a member of the Ladies Altar Society.

She will be dearly missed by all.

The family of Marie Therese Maurin Montz would like to thank her care givers, especially Janice and Lula, and also extends thanks to the staff of Hospice Compassus.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 529 W. 5th Street in LaPlace on Thursday, March 22 from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by the Mass of Christian burial at noon.

Interment is in St. John Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
