Marino: Share community center finances

Would you like to rent the Community Center in LaPlace?

Most people would say it cost too much.

WHY?

How much is Hollywood South paying to use the Center and the grounds?

As the Parish President stated in her article of February 21, “St. John has hosted more than 50 movies.” But not all of them use the building.

Several years ago, one company builds a “set” sound stage inside the Center to produce Memphis Beat.

Where does the money go that these companies have paid the Parish?

Several Parish Councils have asked for an accounting of revenue and expense. They are concerned about why Parish residents are not renting the Center.

This is a public building, that generates revenue and the Administration needs to show the residences the actual expense and total revenue income. You see budgets (income and expense) in the newspaper from other governing bodies.

So what’s the big deal about publishing this document?

Everyone likes to compare different buildings in other Parishes and their rental fees. Do these have movie companies renting their facility like our Community Center?

Where does the money go?

Show us the numbers and put this to rest.
