LAPLACE — Members of the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Distinguished Gentlemen’s Club presented a Valentine’s dinner for special women in their lives at Petra’s restaurant in LaPlace.
To make the women feel appreciated and loved, the young men were servers for the dinner, offered words of thanks to these inspirational women and presented them with a red rose.
Sheriff Mike Tregre, DG mentors Vernon Bailey Jr. and Steven Faucheux and Petra’s owner T.J. Qutob agreed the young men did a great job for the Valentine’s celebration.
Before the celebration, T.J. and his staff held a brief training with club members, who sharpened their listening and speaking skills to take food orders and worked on their arm-hand steadiness to bring food and drinks to tables.
Tregre said he and the mentors are happy to guide the young men in building traits of good character that will prepare members to be productive members of society, as well as assist the young men in obtaining skills needed to become positive influences in the community.
A mentoring program for young men in the parish has been a vision of Tregre’s for a few years.
“I feel it is part of our job to be there for our young people to help them to become great leaders and role models,” Tregre said.
