Parades ready local rolls

LAPLACE — Three local parades are uniting the River Region community with a promise of family fun and good throws this Mardi Gras season.

The 34th annual Krewe of Tohwahpahsah parade rolls in memory of the late Lawrence “Noonie” Triche at noon today in Reserve.

The parade makes a loop through Railroad Avenue and River Road, taking detours down West Fourth, Annex, West Second and West First streets.

Royalty will be unveiled around 11:30 a.m. at the start of the route.

Krewe du Monde returns Sunday with approximately 95 marching groups, floats and trucks.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. at Airline Highway and Main Street and ends at Fairway Drive, meandering down W. Fifth Street, Hemlock Drive, Carrollwood Avenue, Greenwood Drive and Madewood Road.

The second annual St. James Parish Krewe of M.A.C. parade kicks off at 2 p.m. Tuesday, starting at Golden Grove Truck Stop in Gramercy.

A procession of floats, corvettes and marching groups will proceed down Main Street through Lutcher, taking a right on Washington Street and ending at Lutcher Elementary School.

Line up for participants takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is open through the day of the event.
