RESERVE — Unlocked vehicles were again the target of thieves, authorities said, this time referencing the recent arrests of three individuals traveling to St. John Parish from Jefferson Parish to target easy scores.

Those arrested include Daroy Bourgeois, 20, Devin Bourgeois, 17, and a 14-year-old juvenile accomplice, police said, adding the trio are Bridge City residents.

Sheriff Mike Tregre stressed auto burglary is the most preventable of all crimes.

“By locking your vehicle doors, residents have a much better chance of not being a victim of vehicle burglary and theft,” Tregre said. “Thieves will often take everything — purses, computers, cell phones, electronic devices, coins, etc. — because the vehicle is left unsecured.”

St. John Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 100 block of Parker Lane in Reserve at 5:30 a.m. Jan. 24 after being told three male subjects wearing black hooded shirts entered the vehicle and then fled in a white Nissan Altima.

A short time later deputies located a car matching the suspect vehicle description at the intersection of West Second Street and River Road in Reserve.

The vehicle’s occupants were arrested after officers initiated a traffic stop.

Deputies later responded to Ash Street in LaPlace in reference to an overnight vehicle burglary where the victim reported losing cash and personal documents.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry into the vehicles in these incidents, adding the suspects have been linked to the burglaries of four unlocked vehicles in Montz.

Devin Bourgeois was charged with two counts of simple burglary – motor vehicle and also wanted on a fugitive warrant from St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. He is being held in custody in lieu of a $40,000 bond.

Daroy Bourgeois was booked with two counts of simple burglary – motor vehicle, and also wanted on a fugitive warrant from Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

He is being held in custody in lieu of a $41,000 bond.

The juvenile was booked with two counts of simple burglary – motor vehicle and transferred Jan. 24 to the Terrebonne parish Juvenile Center.
