LAPLACE — A hunter was shot in the head this afternoon in LaPlace, authorities said.

According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, a group of individuals were hunting on Thursday near Bert Street, north of Airline Highway when one was struck in the head with gunfire.

Authorities, who are not releasing the victim’s name, said the victim was airlifted for medical treatment.

According to police on the scene, the individuals in the hunting party are being questioned this evening to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
