LAPLACE — An out-of-town man’s thieving trek through St. John Parish resulted in a six-month jail sentence, authorities said.
Dwayne Brown, 53, was sentenced last month to six months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Clerk of Court’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office announced Brown’s arrest in August, saying the Zachary resident was a suspect in thefts that occurred the week prior at LaPlace-based Boost Mobile, AT&T and T- Mobile.
Authorities credited community tips with aiding in the arrest.
Brown was initially booked with three counts of theft by shoplifting – less than $500 (misdemeanor) and theft by shoplifting – $500-$1,500.
According to the Clerk’s office, Brown pleaded guilty Dec. 13 to two counts of theft of $750 but less than $5,000 and two counts of theft less than $750.
He was sentenced to six-month sentences on each count, to be served concurrently.
Brown was ordered to pay more than $2,700 in fines and restitution. He was given credit for 126 days previously served.
