LAPLACE — Deputy Michael Harris was named Officer of the Fourth Quarter, recognized for his observation of an injured subject during a car wreck, which led to the arrest of a Mandeville man accused of killing his wife, then going on a burglary spree in Slidell.
After finishing a detail Dec. 2 and en route to his Slidell home, Harris was the first to stop at a car crash on the Twin Span bridge.
Harris assisted the injured driver until emergency medical services arrived and brought the subject to University Hospital. Upon arrival at his home, Harris received a “be on the look out” alert for an armed and dangerous suspect, and Harris realized the injured man he assisted in the wreck fit the description of the wanted subject. Harris contacted the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Communications officials, who notified the New Orleans Police Department.
Following the subject’s release from the hospital, he was taken into custody by police.
