St. John Parish remains under Winter Weather Advisory until Saturday
LAPLACE — St. John Parish is under a freeze warning until 10 a.m. Saturday. Although, the chance of sleet and snow is expected to diminish, the threat of icy roads remains a concern as near-freezing temperatures will linger and snow accumulations will become ice.
Although, precipitation is forecast to diminish by the evening, icy roads remain a concern as a result of near freezing temperatures.
Local Road Conditions includes the Veterans Memorial Bridge closed in St. James Parish.
The elevated portion of I-55 between Pontchatoula and LaPlace has ice on roadway, and motorists are advised to stay off of the roadway but the low road is open for travel.
Motorists are asked to use caution on the roads, drive slowly and be advised that traffic will start to increase on Airline Highway as a result of road closures. Residents are urged to stay indoors if possible.
Before traveling, check road conditions by visiting the State Police’s website at lsp.org or news stations as there are numerous road closures throughout the state. Please dial 911 for emergencies.
