RACELAND — Kayla Blyden Brown, 21, of Destrahan was killed in a single-vehicle fatality crash shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday on Louisiana 308 near Peltier Drive, authorities said.

The initial investigation showed Brown was traveling south on Louisiana 308, just north of Peltier Drive in a Pontiac G6. For reasons still under investigations, Brown entered a right curve in the highway and failed to negotiate it. Her vehicle ran off of the right side of the road and struck a utility pole head-on, then struck a large pine tree.

Brown was not wearing her seat belt and had to be extricated from the vehicle, and Louisiana State Police said she died shortly after from her injuries on scene. She was pronounced deceased by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.

Impairment is unknown as a factor in the crash; however, a standard toxicology report is pending through the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.
