Sgt. Staty Lewis returns; named quarter’s best
LAPLACE — St. John Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Staty Lewis was assisting with a wreck July 3 on Interstate 10, near Interstate 55, grabbing a first-aid kit from his unit, when a car rear ended Lewis’ vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle, who was uninjured, was booked with DWI, first degree vehicular negligent injuring and careless operation of a motor vehicle. Lewis was treated for a broken shoulder blade and other injuries.
St. John Sheriff Mike Tregre said Lewis’ wreck is a reminder of the hazards police face on a daily basis.
Lewis returned to work in September.
Although Lewis still needs physical therapy, according to Tregre, he was excited to return to protect and to serve the community.
Lewis was honored Monday as Officer of the Third Quarter.
