4th suspect linked to Oct. 8 killing in LaPlace

LAPLACE — A local man was arrested last week, linked to a violent October killing.

Kyron Joseph, 21, of LaPlace, was arrested Friday for criminal conspiracy to distribute Schedule 1 and principal to second degree murder.

He is being held in lieu of a $70,000 bond.

According to Sheriff Mike Tregre, Joseph is linked to the Oct. 8 shooting death of 22-year-old Shane Chopin, who was found behind a garbage dumpster on the ground with several gunshot wounds to his body in the 800 block of West Airline Highway.

Emergency medical services attempted to provide aid, but the victim died at the scene.

Authorities arrested three suspects, each from St. John Parish, within 36 hours.

During the first days of the investigation, authorities warned of more arrests, noting detectives were sifting through some misinformation provided by the community.

Those arrested include Clarensio Lintrell Bolden, 26, of Garyville; Deschad Matthews, 21, of LaPlace; and Ronte Murray, 19, of LaPlace.

Bolden was arrested for second degree murder and, according to Sheriff’s Office records, in being held under no bond.

Murray was booked for principal to second degree murder and was released Oct. 20 after posting bond.

Matthews is charged with principal to second degree murder. He was released Oct. 12 after posting bond.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting.
