LAPLACE — Police said a LaPlace teenager robbed a man at gunpoint, taking the victim’s cellular phone.
Craig Elliot, 17, of LaPlace, was arrested Friday, charged with armed robbery with a firearm (felony). He is being held in custody in lieu of a $65,000 bond.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Calais Drive in LaPlace at approximately 5:30 p.m. Thursday, making contact with an 18-year-old male victim.
Police said the victim reported he was inside a friend’s home at Lincoln Court Apartments, allowing an acquaintance to use his iPhone 7 when another male subject, later identified as Elliot, walked towards the male acquaintance and took the cell phone from his hand.
“When the victim asked Elliot to return the phone, Elliot reached behind a counter, pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the victim and demanded the victim leave the residence, without returning the cell phone,” a Sheriff’s Office release said. “The victim then left the residence.”
After identifying Elliot as the suspect, officers obtained a judicial warrant and booked him last week, police said, adding the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding robbery is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111. Crimestoppers callers do not have to testify and may qualify for a cash reward. Tips can be submitted at stjohnsheriff.org/submitatip.php.
