The 5th grade classes at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School were awarded a $1,116 grant from the Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation. A $1,000 Principal’s Award was also awarded to SJA.
The classes will work under the guidance of Emma Vicknair, SJA’s Academic Assistant, and students will discover the meaning of service learning as they plan, promote and carry out a walk-a-thon to benefit Children’s Hospital.
All students at the school will be invited to participate in the walk, and they will solicit pledges from family members and friends.
All donated funds will be used to purchase supplies for the patient activity carts at the hospital and gift cards for outings to restaurants or movie theaters for the patients. Some gift cards will be also be purchased to help families with expenses during the hospital stay.
