LAPLACE — Sheriff Mike Tregre announced Thursday that the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility passed an audit and inspection from the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections.

The unannounced inspection, according to Tregre, commenced in May and certified the Facility’s continued compliance with jail guidelines and standards. Among the standards reviewed are management, personnel training, records, inmate safety, medical and health care, education, food, work programs and facility status.

Audits with inspection are held every three years for continued certification.

Major Jimmy Oubre is warden.

Captain Gordon Jeffcoat is associate warden; and Lt. Anthony Giovingo is assistant warden.

Lt. Jose Rel is commander of training and programs. Sgt. Sharon Sealy is booking shift supervisor commander.

Jeffcoat said he and other leaders are very proud of all Corrections officers “as they follow policy and also make sure all on shift are trained per policy.”

“A special thanks to Deputy Teresa Browning, Sgt. Sharon Sealy, Lt. Gloria Tassin and Sgt. Kaiana Knight for helping maintain the folders all year long with pertinent information,” Jeffcoat said. “We work very hard as a team to run the best correctional facility possible for the care, custody and control of our inmates to help them to be able to re-enter into society a better person.”
