LAPLACE — Major injury was avoided, police said, when a Toyota Sienna traveling on Spruce Street in LaPlace was struck by a train just after noon Monday.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office said the driver, who was not named, was taken to a New Orleans area-hospital, where she was treated and released. No one else was injured. On Tuesday, authorities said the driver was issued a citation for failure to yield at a railroad crossing.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Monday’s collision is the ninth St. John Parish train wreck involving vehicles in the past six months.
