LAPLACE — Police have arrested one of two people who they said were involved in a neighborhood shootout in late August.

Lyndell Michael Joseph, 23, of LaPlace was arrested Monday after officers initially responded Aug. 20 to Spruce Street and Redwood Drive following a shots fired call for help.

Officers learned from several witnesses that unknown male subjects were shooting at each other in front of residences.

Review of home surveillance video showed one gunman, later identified as Joseph, shooting multiple times at the second subject then running towards a Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Joseph entered the vehicle, then fled west on Capt. G. Bourgeois Street and Rosemary Court. Officers located the vehicle in front of a mobile home on Rosemary Court.

Canvassing the area, officers were unable to locate the suspect, but a computer check showed Joseph was on parole for a possession of cocaine case out of Donaldsonville.

Based on investigation, a warrant was obtained and Joseph was arrested Monday at his home by the St. John Crisis Management Unit without incident.

Joseph is booked with illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities and possession of a firearm/carrying concealed weapon by a convicted felon. He is being held in custody in lieu of a $26,500 bond.

Detectives are seeking the identity of the second gunman and information on what led to the shooting.
