Train crushes pickup truck; crash sends local man to hospital

LAPLACE — A local man is listed in critical condition after his vehicle was struck by a train in LaPlace Monday afternoon, police said.

St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the intersection of Pine and Captain G. Bourgeois streets in LaPlace at approximately 4 p.m. Monday in reference to a crash with injury.

Upon arrival, officers learned a LaPlace man was struck and injured when a train collided with his pickup truck.

Deputies first responded to the intersection of Pine and Captain G. Bourgeois in LaPlace.

The truck driver was taken to a New Orleans hospital, where he is in critical condition, police said Tuesday morning.

No one else was injured. The investigation is ongoing.
