LAPLACE — The leaders of the River Region Chamber of Commerce always are looking for new ideas to get members together for networking opportunities.

Some are more successful than others.

While the gentlemen members of the organization have enjoyed their golf outings, the female members have lacked an event specifically for them — until now.

The Chamber will host a Chamberita Mix and Mingle for professional businesswomen from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 22 at LaCarreta, 107 Carrollwood Drive in LaPlace.

Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by Thursday by calling Stacey Jeffery at 985-359-9777 or email admin@riverregionchamber.org. Attendees are encouraged to bring business cards.

“It’s a chance to sip and socialize with other professional women for a fun and relaxing evening,” Jeffery said.

Chassity McComack, executive director at the Chamber, said women’s events are becoming more popular in many organizations.

“The buzz on women is hot right now,” McComack said.

“Everywhere you go there’s something targeting women, especially for women. We’ve got a lot of these professional businesswomen in the Chamber who are involved in these groups and they’re used to other women’s activities in other organizations.

It’s just another layer of networking because, again, we are in a man’s world.”

McComack said the Chamberita women’s event also is an opportunity for other employees from member businesses to attend an event.

“It’s a great opportunity for them to come and see what the Chamber is all about,” McComack said. “It’s great for those who normally don’t get to attend things because the boss always gets to go.”
