Albert Lionel “Smiley” Lasseigne

Albert Lionel “Smiley” Lasseigne went to the Lord on June 1, 2017.

Albert was a native of Lions, Louisiana, born on Jan. 13, 1925.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Ella Lasseigne, and brother Edgar J. Lasseigne.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gilda Klibert Lasseigne; daughter Jean and husband Daniel K. Jens; son Mark and wife Kendall Lasseigne; daughter Amy and husband Claus Sorensen; and five grandchildren, Jessica, Stephanie and Matthew Lasseigne and Anders and Ella Sorensen.
Albert served in the European theater during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart & the French Legion of Honor Award.

Employment with United Gas Pipeline brought him and his family to Houma in the early 1950s. He retired from Vandebilt Catholic High in July 1992 and oversaw the original construction of the high school in the 1960s.

He was a founding parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Parish, serving on a committee that helped convince Archbishop Rummel to establish the Parish.

He shared his talents as a master of many mechanical and electrical trades with all who came seeking his assistance.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, June 5 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, with burial following at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery II.
