NORCO — Sheriff Mike Tregre enjoyed spending the morning with several local children at the annual kids fishing camp hosted by the 40th Judicial District Children & Youth Services Planning Board and Prevention Committee May 13 in the Bonnet Carre Spillway near Norco.

With pole and bait in hand, Sheriff Tregre and officers Blane Rome Sr., Randall Joseph, Leonard Sanders, Stephen Hefler, Ann-Marie Duronslet, and Elton Foret assisted children as they fished around the spillway’s boat launch.

Captain Randall Joseph and a participant are all smiles at the 40th Judicial District Children & Youth Services Planning Board and Prevention Committee’s kids fishing camp held May 13 in the Bonnet Carre Spillway near Norco.

Officers were available to help children place worms and crickets on a hook, cast poles and offer other fishing tips. Reserve Deputy Bernell Charles, who is chairman of the 40th Judicial District Children & Youth Services Planning Board Prevention Committee, spearheaded the event.

Fishing poles and bait were provided. Lunch also was served, and T-shirts were presented to the children.

The SJSO was among several sponsors of the camp. Sheriff Tregre said the annual camp is a great family event, and he hopes more families attend next year.
