LAPLACE — Matherne’s Market is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary in LaPlace.

To mark the occasion, the store’s owners did a little sprucing up of the place.

The store recently unveiled a new sleeker logo on the outside of the store, as well as a fresh look inside, with each area of the store getting its own color design.

“The store just needed an update,” said LaPlace store manager Scott Schwaibold. “We redid the logo and then we came in with a whole new décor package, which it needed after 10 years. We painted all the walls, just reimagined everything. “

The rest is pretty much the same.

“We’re doing good,” Schwaibold said.

The store, which is smaller than the big box stores, is noted for its large selections of grocery items, abundance of fresh produce and premium beef, which can be cut to order.

The hungry can easily find ready-to-cook meals and ready-to-eat meals. The Matherne’s Kitchen offers breakfast, lunch and dinner options, including eggs and bacon, sandwiches, wraps, hot plate lunches, a well-stocked salad bar and a fresh sushi bar.

Matherne’s also is known for its large and diverse selection of fine wines, domestic and imported beer and gourmet cheeses.

Those on the mailing list are the first to know about the frequent wine and beer tastings the store hosts.

The store also offers a large catering and party tray menu.

It’s all part of the Matherne’s Market charm, Schwaibold said.

“We pride ourselves on our fine wines, Chairman’s Reserve beef and our fresh-cooked deli,” Schwaibold said. “That’s really what we hang our hat on. Everything’s made from scratch. Nothing is pre-made.”

Matherne’s, a family-owned operation for more than 20-years, has locations in Baton Rouge and Paulina.

The LaPlace store is located at 1424 W. Airline Highway in the Riverlands Shopping Center and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
