LAPLACE — A River Region couple was jailed this week after a LaPlace burglary attempt turned into a domestic assault and two arrests, police said.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to LaPlace Thrift Treasures on Woodland Drive at approximately 10 p.m. Tuesday to find John Jason Gautreaux and Marissa Page loading a dental chair from the store porch into the bed of the truck, police said.

“During the investigation, deputies learned that a male subject … was screaming at a female subject … as they were burglarizing the business,” a Sheriff’s Office release said.

“Based on further investigation, officers learned that Page believed Gautreaux, her boyfriend, had permission to take the item from the business for scrap metal. When she refused to exit the truck to help him load the chair, however, a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation with Gautreaux pulling Page from the truck.”

Police said Gautreaux, 37, of LaPlace allegedly struck Page with his hand several times and slammed her head on the truck fender, coercing her to participate in the theft.

Page, 21, of Luling was booked with theft $750 – $5,000. She is being held in custody in lieu of a $750 bond.

Gautreaux was booked with domestic abuse battery and theft $750 – $5,000. He is being held in custody in lieu of a $4,500 bond.

The chair was returned to the store owner, according to authorities.
