LAPLACE — The fifth grade classes at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School carried out a walkathon to raise money for Children’s Hospital with the assistance of teacher Mrs. Emma Vicknair.

The students were awarded a grant from the Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation for $1,050, which made it possible for them to raise more than $5,100.

About 90 students from preK2 to 7th grade collectively walked hundreds of laps.

The donations were used to purchase arts and craft supplies and books for the activity carts for the patients at Children’s Hospital.

A variety of gift cards were purchased to allow for family outings when patients are well enough to leave for short periods to watch a movie or have dinner.
