LAPLACE — A local man, who police say avoided capture during a police chase and crash last month turned himself into authorities Saturday.

The case began April 15 when St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Fir and Captain G. Bourgeois Streets to find Tyrodrick Brown operating a 1993 Chevy pickup truck under the influence of narcotics, police said.

Deputies discovered the vehicle traveling south on Elm Street in LaPlace and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop, picked up speed, disregarded traffic signs and turned into Joe Parquet Circle.

The vehicle pursuit ended when police units pulled up to the right and left of the vehicle and the driver crashed into the front passenger side of a police unit, lost control and crashed into an apartment.

Officers sustained no injuries in the crash. Police said Brown, 35, was driver, adding he fled on foot into a wooded area near the housing complex.

“Officers canvassed the area but were unable to locate him,” a Sheriff’s Office release said. “During a search of the truck, a make shift pipe, a clear plastic bag containing marijuana and a hand rolled cigar containing marijuana also were found in the vehicle.”

Brown turned himself into authorities Saturday, posted a $24,669.50 bond and was released Sunday.

He is charged with aggravated flight from an officer, hit and run driving, possession of marijuana first offense, possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia first offense, reckless operation of a vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer and hit and run.
