3 advance to state tennis matches

The St. Charles Catholic tennis team recently wrapped up its 2017 season with three players advancing to the state tournament.

The Comets, who are coached by parent volunteer Ron Terrio, competed with 12 players at the Division III, Region IV regional tournament April 20 at the University of New Orleans.

The regional competitors in girls singles were Shana Breaux and Kassidy Terrio; boys singles, Claude Hill III and Robert Newsome; girls doubles, Abbi Roussell and Shelby Ory, Averi Rojas and Nicol Bourgeois, Sophia Simon and Hannah Babin; boys doubles, Cordelle Rojo and A.J. Ayer; girls alternates, Dominique Perrilloux, April Bourlet, Sophia Robicheaux, Hailey Hilbun; boys alternate, Ishon Ayer.

Of those, three qualified for state in Monroe.

Shana Breaux defeated De La Salle (6-1, 2-6, 10-2), Claude Hill III defeated De La aSalle (6-0, 6-1) and Robert Newsome defeated John Curtis (6-1, 6-0).

Those three players competed Monday in Monroe.

Breaux lost to a player from Loyola Prep (0-6, 0-6), Newsome lost to a player from Menard (1-6, 0-6) and Hill, making his second appearance at state, lost to a player from Caldwell Parish in a tiebreaker (3-6, 6-7, (5)).
