Thomas L. “Tommy” Lyons, small business developer, community activist and Independent voter declared his candidacy for the Louisiana Senate District 2 seat.
Lyons qualified for the seat on March 17, 2017. Senate District 2 includes parts of Ascension, Assumption, Iberville, Lafourche, St. Charles, St. James, St. John and West Baton Rouge parishes.
“I am pleased and honored to announce my candidacy for Louisiana Senate District 2,” Lyons said. “During my life, I have gained an understanding of the issues that affect District 2.
“Most importantly, the role for the District 2 Senator should be to speak the voices of the people of the district. There are many issues coming before us and I know that every voter in District 2 will accept the responsibility of being a public servant, and help guide the growth of District 2. The District 2 Senator should be an active communications link between the people and the Legislature.
“As Senator, I will be a valued nonpartisan leader, by taking advantage of my experience, skills, and perspectives, gained from my lifetime of being self-employed and community activism. I look forward to a positive campaign, meeting citizens, and learning more about the district’s challenges.”
Lyons, a Nicholls State graduate, is married to Rebecca Lyons, Department Head of Nursing at Nicholls State University. He is the father of a son, David, and daughter, Katherine Lyons Thibodeaux. His first grandchild is on the way.
