The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office, working with the Local Emergency Planning Committee, recently wrapped up school visits in which officers and Committee members presented St. John Parish’s Active Shooter/Intruder training video.

At the end of the presentation, brochures were distributed to all students to take home.

Sheriff Mike Tregre encourages parents and guardians to read the brochure and discuss with children what to do if a shooter or intruder is in their school.

The video was showcased at all schools in the parish to help students and faculty prepare to properly handle an active shooter/intruder situation.

The scenario, recorded on video, is used by the Sheriff’s Office, school system and other partner agencies to hone emergency response skills and educate students and faculty in a proactive effort addressing the threat of violence in schools.
