LAPLACE — For decades, River Parishes car owners have trusted the name Roussel’s when it came to auto repair and new tires.

As of this week, they will have to get used to a new name.

Roussel’s Goodyear Tire and Car Care Center on Belle Terre Boulevard has been sold to the Tire Town franchise, owner Jane Roussel confirmed.

She and her husband, Kerry, are ready to retire.

“I guess we’re just getting old,” Roussel said. “We started thinking about selling and it all just came together rather quick. I don’t know what we’re going to do. I haven’t thought about that yet. It’s been kind of crazy. I had no idea so much went into closing a business. I’ll just take a deep breath, I guess.”

Opened in the early 1990s, the local car care center has become a River Parishes institution, especially thanks to its longtime sponsorship of the annual Roussel’s Goodyear River Parishes football jamboree.

Former Riverside Academy head coach Mickey Roussel and Kerry are brothers.

Now it will be one of three Tire Town locations, along with those in New Orleans and Slidell.

Roussel said the new franchise will still provide tune ups, oil changes and repairs, but will offer expanded tire sales.

She added the new owners have retained all employees at the LaPlace location, which should aid in a smooth transition for local customers.

“The guys in the back, they’re all wonderful,” she said. “You will still get the same great service with an expanded product.”

Tire Town is located at 421 Belle Terre Blvd. It is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 984-652-4063 for more information.
