Numerous marches plan to honor King

LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist residents are invited to honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at events being held throughout the Parish on Monday.

A march will take place at 9 a.m. Monday in LaPlace, proceeding up Belle Pointe Boulevard, down Airline Highway to New Wine Christian Fellowship, 1929 Airline Highway in LaPlace.

Those interested in marching are asked to begin lining up at 8 a.m. at the intersection of 400 Ory Dr. and Belle Pointe Boulevard.

A rally will immediately follows the march at New Wine Christian Fellowship with the theme “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now.”

The West Bank Civic Association will also hold its annual Martin Luther King Jr. march and rally at noon Monday at Roland Borne Sr. Memorial Library, 2979 Louisiana 18 in Edgard.

There will be a ceremony at West St. John Elementary School, 2555 Louisiana 18 in Edgard, immediately following the march.

Parish officials ask all residents to join the St. John community in commemoration of Dr. King’s birthday.
